The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has awarded a $4,695,000 contract to Loftus Construction Inc. to rehabilitate the Main Street bridge that carries two lanes of traffic over SEPTA-owned tracks in Sellersville Borough.
The rehabilitation of the bridge, originally built in 1927, involves removing the concrete deck, sidewalks and pedestrian railings in order to repair, strengthen and paint the steel single-span pony truss. The bridge deck, sidewalks and abutment backwalls will be replaced and the pedestrian railing will be repaired, reinforced and reinstalled.
Construction operations will begin in summer 2019 with minimal impacts to motorists. In Fall 2019, Main Street will be closed between East Church Street and West Church Street. Main Street motorists will be directed to use Route 152, Route 309, Lawn Avenue and Route 563. The detour will be in effect through October 2020.
The replacement project is financed with 100 percent state funds.
